About the Art: Very good condition. The watercolor shows
some slight fading, consistent with its age.
There is a little light foxing in the sky
area, most noticibly to the right of the
bulding on the left.
Biography: Landscape painter, often in water-colour.
Born at Ashton-under-Lyne. At
an early age
entered business in Manchester,
and in the
evenings studied at the Board
School classes
and the Manchester Academy of
Fine Arts.
He took up art full-time, and
visited Holland
and Belgium, where he studied
under Verlat
at the Antwerp Academy. Exhibited
at the
R.A. from 1889, also at the Paris
Salon and
in Munich. In 1902 he was elected
a member
of the London Sketch Club. He
lived at Reigate
and painted many scenes in Surrey,
Sussex
and Kent. Died on 22nd March
1928. - from
