About the Painting: Very good. The board (similar to masonite) is probably older than the painting; it had sustained some minor damage that has been painted over. Also, there is a small area of missing paint in the lower left corner that will be covered when framed. The painting is shown below framed, but is sold unframed.

About the Artist: This is the second painting of Scottish subjects signed W. Stewart that we've owned. The other was a watercolor of a seaside cottages in Largo, Fife. We cannot attribute this painting to a specific artist - though various reference books cite Scottish exhibitions by artists with that name. We believe this is NOT the W. Stewart who painted in the style of F. J. Aldridge, however. Though of professional quality, the signature of this W. Stewart does not match that of the other Stewart, who painted English and Venetian shipping scenes.
