About the Painting: Very good condition; some wear on edges which will be unseen when framed.

About the Artist: Elsie Rubin was born in New Britain, Connecticut and studied at the Art Student's League with Aaron Berkman, Frank Klenholtz and Joseph Solman. She taught at the Stephen Wise Synagogue in '59 and '60 and taught privately for many years at ther studio in NYC. Her solo shows include the Ahda Artzt Gallery, NYC; St. Mary of Wood College in Indiana; Hilldale College, Michigan; McPherson College, Pennsylvania; and the Massillon Museum in Ohio. Her history of group shows include the ACA Gallery, NYC; the City Stratford Art Gallery; East Central State Museum, Oklahoma; the Florida Gulf Coast Art Center; Barry College in Miami, Florida; La Salle College, Philadelphia; Neville Public Museum, Wisconsin; the Art Directions Gallery Group; the National Association of Women Artists; the Artzt Gallery; and the Audubon Artist Annual. She is represented in the permanent collections of the Henry Street Settlement in NYC and in many other private and public collections. She was the recipient of honorable mention of the NYC Center Gallery, was a member of the National Association of Women Artists and recieved the Lillian Cotton Award in 1961, and the Grumbacher Award for Best Oil in 1970. She's listed in Who's Who of American Women.

The image below is of a painting by Alice Neel (1900 - 1984) executed in 1958 entitled Psychiatrist's Wife: Elsie Rubin. Ms Rubin sat for at least one other portrait for Alice Neel. We do not know if this Elsie Rubin is the artist of our abstract still life, but the date of the portrait the style of the painting is similar to Rubin's own work..
