Classical landscape, pastel, indistinctly signed l/l,
8.5" x 12" sight, 18" x 21" frame.

About the Painting: Very good condition. Pastel was not sealed by the artist, resulting in minor flaking of the pigment - especially noticible with the signature.

Painted widely in France and Holland, and indeed achieved much success abroad. Tended to favour coastal and river subjects. Exhibited at the R.A. from 1889 and the Paris Salon from 1894. Maintained a studio in Glasgow and for many years lived at Whistlefield, Dunbartonshire. Died on 26th September 1942.

Provenance: Gift of the artist to King Farouk of Egypt and through his daughter to David G. Kramer, Washington, D.C. from whom it was acquired.
