About the Painting: Very good condition. Mounted in the original
frame with brass plaque.
About the Artist: Pennsylvania artist and model, Elise Ford
featured in several important
paintings executed
by Howard Chandler Christy (see
images below).
She was his model and companion
for many
years, and in the shadow of his
greatness
evolved her own painting style
and exhibition
success. "Chrysanthemums"
was exhibited
in a Madison Avenue gallery in
New York and
retains the gallery label, verso.

Portrait of Elise Ford created by Howard
Chandler Christy in 1947. The painting is
part of the Ohio Historical Society fine
art collection. Christy grew up in Duncan
Falls, Ohio and later built a studio there.
In addition to portraits, he was a well known
illustrator and also painted historic scenes.
