Dawber, Sir Edward Guy R.A. (English)
1861-1938

"Pinerolo (Italy)," watercolor, Signed EGD 1928 and inscribed l/l, signed Guy Dawber verso,
8" x 10.5" sight, 20" x 22.5" frame.

About the Painting: Excellent condition; new frame.

About the Artist: A renowned architect of the Arts and Crafts style, Guy Dawber became an expert in the vernacular buildings of the Cotswolds. Later, after his return to London, he was a leading exponent of the traditional English domestic house, alternating between stone classical houses and Tudor and vernacular building styles.

Dawber exhibited regularly at the Royal Academy where he was elected Associate in 1927 and elevated to full membership in 1935. An associate of Sir Earnest George early in his career, this watercolor by Dawber is an indication of George's influence for leisure drawing. That there was a connection isn't in doubt, as Dawber wrote the notes for the Memorial Exhibition of watercolors by Sir Ernest George at the Fine Art Society in 1923.
