Biography: Born in Ontario in 1875, by 1892 she was
making her living as an artist. However,
she trained as a nurse and spent the war
years (WWII) in Paris, where she continued
to create etchings, while driving for the
American Ambulance Service unit.I n 1920
she did a series of highly detailed architectural
etchings in France of cathedrals in Chartres,
Rheims, Amiens, Rouen and Tours. In 1922
the Belgian Red Star Line commissioned a
limited edition edition of the ocean liner
Belgenland.
She had solo shows in many galleries:
Galeries
Simonson in Paris, 1923; Vancouver
Art Gallery
in Canada; Corcoran in Washington,
D.C. in
1924 among others. In all she
produced 557
etchings during her lifetime
and accumulated
many prizes and honors.
Her work is in the collections
of several
museums in the United States,
Canada and
Europe, including the Library
of Congress,
Wash. D.C., Metropolitan Museum
in NYC, the
Cleveland Museum, the British
Museum and
Victoria and Albert Museum in
London.
