About the Painting: Very good condition, in general, although
the board is warped. The painting should
frame nicely and flaten with a good backing,
however. It is a pleasing composition with
very good color. and a masculine appeal.
About the Artist: Painter in oil and watercolour of landscapes
and portraits. Born at Kensington
on 15th
February 1903. Educated at Charterhouse,
and studied languages and singing
in France
and Spain 1922-26. Studied art
under Bernard
Adams 1928-30. Exhibited at the
R.A., R.B.A.,
and was elected N.S. 1930, R.B.A.,
1932.
He taught at Berkhamsted School
1937-40,
and at Tonbridge School from
1940 to 1963.
Published The Student's Approach to Landscape Painting 1938, Art and Everyman 1945, and other works. He lived near Stroud
